During the 16th through 19th centuries slaves were mistreated in a harsh and brutal way by their white masters. That was obviously racism because there were no real white slaves or other non-black people that would work for free. Even after the Emancipation Proclamation was passed in 1863, blacks still faced the same mistreatment as they did prior. In the mid-1900's, blacks would be beaten and arrested because they were fighting and protesting for their equal rights. Some blacks found themselves with the Ku Klux Klan. They are shown in this image:
They were a group of white men who were (or are) pro-white supremacy and anti-immigration. That means although they mainly focused on anti-black activities, they probably also hated Mexicans and other Hispanics. Right now, lots of immigrants are coming to the U.S. from Hispanic countries, like Mexico, the Dominican Republic, and Panama, and also from other countries around the world. They deserve to stay here, not there. Next post, I'm going to talk about immigration.
